近期USB-IF針對USB Type-C規範發佈了兩個Engineering Change Notice (ECN)，一為「TBT3 Cable Requirements Update」， 另一個為「Extend Thunderbolt 3 requirement to USB4 Gen 3 Passive Cables」。這兩個ECN確立了USB4 Passive Cables需全面支持Thunderbolt。
在ECN「TBT3 Cable Requirements Update」中，首先更新了5.4.2章節USB4 Discovery and Entry Flow，將附錄F中TBT3 Discover_SVID與Discover_Mode相關定義加入，讓USB4 passive/ active cables多了是否相容於Thunderbolt的檢查機制。
在6.2.1.2章節則新增Table 4-2a USB4 Cable Identify Summary。但該table只說明USB4 re-driver/ re-timer active cables「必須」支持Thunderbolt，仍未要求USB4 passive cables必須支持Thunderbolt。
F.2.9章節的Table F-14 TBT3 Cable Functional Difference Summary則針對USB4 re-driver/ re-timer active cables裡，PD e-Marker宣告如何支持Thunderbolt做了如下紅字的修正。
最後在ECN「Extend Thunderbolt 3 requirement to USB4 Gen 3 Passive Cables」中，則再將6.2.1.2章節新增Table 4-2a USB4 Cable Identify Summary裡的Note 1標注在passive欄位中，至此確定了USB4 Passive Cable全面支持Thunderbolt。
上述兩個ECN的發佈，使得USB4 passive cables取得USB-IF認證測試需要多執行TBT3 compatibility相關測試。目前預計開始執行的時間會落在今年(2021)的7月中，各位廠商如果想驗證手上的USB4 cables是否能pass新測項，歡迎聯絡百佳泰service@allion.com做進一步的洽詢。
